Weather Situation

A weak high pressure system south of the state will move to the east on Friday morning before crossing into Victoria. In the west on Friday a warm front will pass over western districts with an associated low pressure system moving along the coast across the weekend. A strong cold front associated with this low will sweep across the state on Saturday, with a trough following through the south and east on Sunday and Monday.

Forecast for the rest of Thursday

Isolated light showers about southeastern coasts with thunderstorms developing in the far north west in the evening. South to southeasterly winds, tending easterly in the west, becoming light about eastern parts in the evening.

Friday 24 October

Showers, patchy rain and storms extending across the west, reaching central districts in the late evening. Thunderstorms are more likely about the west, becoming severe about the far west. Severe thunderstorms may bring damaging gust, heavy rainfall and large hail. Isolated morning fog about the Southern Agricultural Areas. Maximum temperatures above average in the west and north and near to below average elsewhere. Southeast to northeasterly winds, tend to fresh and gusty north to northwesterlies in the west.

Saturday 25 October

Showers and thunderstorms extending across all areas but the far north east. Thunderstorms becoming more frequent west of the Spencer Gulf, possibly becoming severe. Severe thunderstorms become more likely in the west, bringing damaging gust, heavy rainfall and large hail. Maximum temperatures generally near to above average. Fresh and gusty north to northwesterly winds ahead of a fresh and gusty west to southwesterly change in the west reaching central districts in the evening.

Sunday 26 October

Showers and storms across central and eastern districts through the morning, contracting and easing to scattered showers across the Southern Agricultural Areas by the afternoon. Maximum temperatures above average in the far north east, grading below average across the south. Fresh and gusty west to southwesterly winds extending throughout.

Monday 27 October

Showers at times across the Agricultural Areas and southern pastorals, patchy rain and isolated thunderstorms under a cloud band in the far north. Maximum temperatures below average, grading to well below average in the north. Broadly southeast to southwesterly winds, becoming fresh about the coasts and gusty with showers. Cumulative rainfall totals to the end of Monday: generally less than 2 mm across the far northeast, broad areas of 5 to 15 mm elsewhere with 15 to 30 mm possible about parts of the North West Pastoral and West Coast districts. Isolated falls of 30 to 45 mm with thunderstorms, especially about Eyre Peninsula and central and southeastern districts. Possible highly localised totals up to 45-60 mm with severe thunderstorms that bring heavy rainfall to parts of the Eyre Peninsula, West Coast and southern North West Pastoral.
